Felt Tip Design Group was founded in Early 2007 by landscape architect Keith Whipple. Keith has been a licensed landscape architect in Florida since 1990. He worked in Orlando for thirteen years concentrating on Theme Park design.
Keith moved to Naples in 2002 and was the director of landscape architecture for a well-known design/ build firm where he led the design staff in estate residential planning and design, commercial design, luxury condominium design, and public gardens.
Keith earned his Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, in 1985.
A landscape architect is not a landscape contractor. We design landscapes, but we do not install them. Our end "products" are drawings that will be used by landscape contractors to price the work and as "blueprints" to install the landscape per plan.
Another common misperception is that landscape architects only design with plants, but planting design is only one part of the broad range of design services we offer. A landscape architect can (and should) design your swimming pool, your outdoor decks and terraces, your fountains, your walkways and gazebos, your outdoor lighting, your arbors and shade structures, even your drainage and driveways.
A good landscape architect has to be a good listener and a good communicator. We have to understand your needs and translate them into real design solutions that can be built. And we have to draw well, because that is how we communicate our ideas effectively to you and your contractor.

"It's All about You" is our design philosophy. Hopefully, you've seen in our project photographs that there is diversity in our designs. We deliberately avoid a signature look to our work, because our designs reflect the Clients' wishes and tastes, not ours.

Keith Whipple, the founder of Felt Tip Design Group, worked for years with a large multi-disciplinary design and engineering firm in Orlando, Florida. One day, an exasperated engineer complained that, "You landscape architects and your felt tip pens! Everything you draw is so fat that nothing's precise. Why don't you throw those #*%$@! things away?" So, naming the firm after something that drives engineers crazy seemed the right thing to do. The infamous Felt Tip pen figures prominently in our logo, too.
